A lecture (from Latin: lectura 'reading') is an oral presentation intended to present information or teach people about a particular subject, for example by a university or college teacher.
The ISU Committee on Lectures invites faculty, staff, researchers, and graduate students to apply to present their work as part of the ISU Research Showcase, a 2025-2026 lecture series highlighting innovative scholarship across campus.
Series events typically take place on campus, but – following public health guidance due to the COVID-19 pandemic – this spring’s lectures will all be virtual, viewable via Zoom. And audience members will be able to submit questions for consideration as part of the experience, time permitting.
Community Lectures connects local communities with trusted experts who deliver impactful presentations on vital health and wellness topics. These events have been attended by thousands of community members, educators, and providers seeking credible, actionable insights on the issues that matter most.
Designing a lecture to intentionally stimulate students thinking, rather than just deliver content, requires a student-centered focus. Research finds that student learning is enhanced by chunking lecture material into 5-15-minute segments, and interspersing with short, active learning exercises.
